Which Direction Do I Go?
First Step:
PHS subscribes to "Xello" - a valuable career exploration tool to help students decide on their career path after high school graduation. Students complete interest inventories and career activities with a school counselor during a Social Studies class. For log-in information, contact the student's school counselor.
Exploring careers is the first step to planning your future. The more students know about themselves and the different career fields available, the more informed choices they will be able to make regarding their future.
Second Step:
In 2008, a group of like-minded individuals from school districts, the Wisconsin Technical College System, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction collaborated on the idea of organizing career fields into 16 specific groups for students to use in determining their career pathways. PHS has taken those 16 Career Clusters (listed in the right column) and expanded them to include the high school coursework necessary to be ready for college or job-training in the student's chosen field.
Third Step:
An Academic & Career Planning ("ACP") meeting is a student-driven, adult-supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for after high school graduation success obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills. The Portage Community School District has its own processes in place that fall within the required elements of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, to support the diverse needs of our students.
