Some things to know about enrolling at PAA:
1. PAA is designed to meet the needs of students who are at risk of not graduating from Portage High School.
2. The child must be a student at Portage High School to apply.
3. Space is limited and not all students who apply are accepted into PAA.
4. Applicants are interviewed for the open slots. There is not a lottery or waiting list for openings in PAA.
5. The interview process helps the team determine who is in the greatest need of PAA and who would likely be successful in our program.
6. Success in PAA depends on many factors including but not limited to attendance, employability, earned credits, career path, and ability to do the online coursework.
7. Interviews are conducted each quarter and the best candidates are selected from that applicant pool. Applicants not selected will have to apply again for each interview session they wish to be considered for.
8. There is no limit to the number of times a student can apply.
9. PAA students practice learned
employability and soft skills by working a minimum of 20 hrs/week. Students receive credits towards graduation for this workplace learning experience. Students must provide their own, reliable transportation to the workplace. The workplace must provide a W2, supervision, and feedback to the student and PAA staff on the student's performance. Babysitting for self or others, working directly for a family member, or being self-employed are not acceptable workplaces.
10. Students receive a diploma from the Portage Academy of Acheivement and participate in the PAA commencement ceremonies.
